The first webinar series of PACT was held on July 10, 2020. It was attended by 100 participants coming from the different regions in the country.
The Webinar Speaker is Dr. Elmer-Rico E. Mojica, Associate Professor of Pace University in New York City, New York, USA shared his experiences and insights from his online classes in chemistry.
In the first quarter of 2020, face-to-face classes were shifted to online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This has greatly affected science subjects and caused too pressure to the teachers on how to deliver quality education in these times. Fortunately, Dr. Mojica made it easier for us to understand the situation, relate to the students, and formulate ways to teach chemistry without physical contact.
In an online chemistry lecture, even though not all of the students are attending, there should be a way for them to have access to assessments and materials. More importantly, the communication between the student and the teacher must always be there. Conducting surveys, before and after the classes, exams, and materials make a good feedbacking technique.
Chemistry has always been associated with the laboratory . What will happen now during the time of this pandemic? According to Dr. Mojica, there are a lot of ways to conduct experiments. There are websites that can help us simulate the experiments and videos of chemistry experiments from YouTube. A home-based experiment is also an option but this needs to be done with caution.
